Pune: Ajit Pawar Outlines Plan to Resolve Traffic Congestion in Chakan Area
Pune, August 9, 2025: To streamline traffic flow in areas like Hinjawadi and Chakan, it is essential to promptly develop roads after removing encroachments, said Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar. He instructed the concerned authorities to coordinate efforts to widen and develop roads urgently to prevent traffic jams. Pawar was speaking after conducting a site inspection and reviewing measures to address traffic congestion in the Chakan region during a meeting at the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) headquarters in Akurdi.
Poor road conditions and traffic congestion in Chakan MIDC and surrounding areas have been causing difficulties for businesses, workers, and motorists. The problem persists due to the high number of encroachments. If roads are not developed immediately after encroachment removal, fresh encroachments reappear. Pawar directed the administrative machinery to ensure follow-up action so that roads are developed without delay once encroachments are cleared.
As the Chakan area sees a large volume of heavy vehicles, restrictions on their movement during specific hours should be imposed. He also emphasized starting a truck terminal in the MIDC area and called for joint planning by the RTO and police to improve traffic management. Additionally, encroachments must be removed promptly, garbage disposal issues resolved, and those obstructing road development should face legal action.
During the meeting, PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase presented solutions, timelines, and a master plan to address traffic congestion in the Chakan area.
