Pune: Ajit Pawar Urges No Overlap Between Flyover And Metro Line Construction Works
Pune, September 22, 2025 – Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Sunday emphasized the need for seamless coordination among government agencies while executing major infrastructure projects in Pune, including elevated highways and Metro lines. He directed Maha Metro, NHAI, MSIDC, and other authorities to ensure that construction activities do not overlap, minimizing inconvenience to the public.
Pawar stated, “Authorities have been asked to submit a detailed plan for elevated highways and Metro lines within a week. Following that, a meeting with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will be held to finalize proposals, with local representatives also participating. It is crucial for all agencies to work in harmony.” He further urged officials to prepare long-term civic plans for the next century, noting that investment in infrastructure yields lasting benefits.
Maha Metro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar shared that NHAI and MSIDC have proposed flyovers along highways such as Pune–Ahilyanagar, Pune–Nashik, and Pune–Solapur, while Metro has planned extensions along some of these corridors. To address potential overlaps, a double-decker structure accommodating both flyovers and Metro lines is under consideration.
Hardikar added that detailed project reports for routes like Hadapsar–Uruli Kanchan via Loni Kalbhor have already been submitted to the state government, while the Hadapsar–Saswad line is still in the DPR stage. MSIDC has also planned flyovers along these stretches.
The meeting with Pawar focused on improving multi-agency coordination to reduce disruption for citizens during project execution. Additionally, Metro officials presented plans for the 42km Bhakti Shakti Chowk (Nigdi)–Chakan route, which includes proposed realignments between Nashik Phata and Chakan based on local feedback. Hardikar noted, “We are evaluating alternative routes to ensure the most practical and citizen-friendly solution.”
Apart from infrastructure discussions, Pawar met officials from Haffkin Biopharmaceuticals Institute Pvt Ltd to address issues regarding their deteriorating staff quarters and overall infrastructure. While the institute had suggested commercial development, Pawar opposed it and assured funding arrangements of Rs 150 crore from the state budget.
