Pune, September 6, 2025 — For the first time this season, all reservoirs supplying water to Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) have reached full storage capacity, according to the irrigation department.
On Thursday afternoon, Khadakwasla dam touched its maximum capacity of 1.97 TMC, leading to a controlled release of 2,140 cusecs into the Mutha river. The Khadakwasla circle dams — Temghar, Panshet, Varasgaon, and Khadakwasla — together hold 29.15 TMC, and all were reported full by evening.
Similarly, Bhama Askhed dam, which caters to the eastern parts of Pune, recorded 7.67 TMC (100%) storage, prompting a discharge of 660 cusecs. In addition, Pavana and Andra dams that supply water to PCMC limits are also filled to capacity.
The irrigation department has issued alerts to both civic bodies about possible increases in discharge and advised them to remain alert.
