Pune, December 7, 2024: Anand Pardeshi, a resident of Tropica Co-Operative Housing Society, Ravet and an animal welfare activist has reported a shocking case of animal cruelty within the society premises. On the evening of November 13, 2024, a community dog was brutally beaten, sustaining severe head trauma, spinal cord injury, and multiple cuts. The dog lost consciousness and was rushed to a private hospital by Pardeshi, where it is now under treatment. Despite recovery, the veterinarian has confirmed the dog will suffer lifelong disability.

Following the incident, Pardeshi filed an FIR on December 3, 2024, at Ravet Police Station under IPC Section Section 11(1)(l) and 11 (1) a and BNS 325.

Pardeshi alleged that this incident is not isolated. He claimed that the Tropica Society management committee and some residents have been harassing and threatening him and other animal feeders for over five years. Despite receiving multiple legal notices, including those from SAS India, Shashwat Foundation, the District Deputy Registrar, and SPCA Pune, the society management has failed to designate proper feeding points for community animals. Instead, they arbitrarily set up a feeding area without consulting feeders and imposed a fine of ₹1,000 for feeding elsewhere.

Adv. Shreya Guha from Mumbai helped me in filing the FIR and coordinating with the senior police officer and CP of Pimpri Chinchwad, stated Pardeshi.

Pardeshi further accused some residents and committee members of spreading animosity towards the community dogs, often leading to acts of cruelty such as pelting stones and using sticks. These dogs, which have been vaccinated, sterilized, and cared for by Pardeshi, are friendly and playful.

“This recent incident has compelled me to report the continued harassment and cruelty these animals face. For the past 5-6 years, I have been the sole caregiver for the community dogs and cats here, driven by my love and compassion for these voiceless beings,” Pardeshi stated.

Authorities are investigating the case, and Pardeshi has urged stricter measures to prevent such cruelty in the future.
