On the occasion of International Dance Day, quite a few children residing at the Roseland Residency participated in a number of dance competitions organised by different Dance Academies and brought home laurels.

It was a matter of great joy and utmost pride for their parents and other residents since the society itself holds the National Swachh Bharat Award from 2017 among other notable accolades.

All those who won are students at the Nartan Academy run by Foram Buch, who is also a resident at Roseland society. The children participated in two different national level competitions organised by two different dance academies on and around the time of International Dance Day, which is celebrated on 29th April every year.

On 25th and 26th April, the Nrutya Darpan Dance Academy, in collaboration with Indian Art Cultural of India organised the 12th All India National Dance Contest and Festival for the year 2024 at Pandit Bhimsen Joshi auditorium situated in Aundh. In this competition, the fruits of hard work were even sweeter for Mrs. Foram Buch, whose daughter Pareerti Buch bagged the first prize in the duet category along with her dance partner Lavanya Goel.

Sixteen year-old Pareerti spoke about her experience and shared, “We had practised a lot and not just to win. We wanted our performance to be perfect so that even if we do not win, we feel satisfied with our performance. The competition was very tough and at the end of the day we won and it was a very good feeling.”

Both Pareerti and her dance partner Lavanya are in the final stages of completing Bharatnatayam. This level is known as Visharath and is considered the master level of the dance form.

The other competition was Ntrutyotsav, organised by Shivanjali Dance Academy, spanning a total of three days from 28th to 30th April. Here, the students won 1st prize in the junior group dance category. The names of the group members are as follows:

  1. Tanisha Yadav — Roseland
  2. Drishti Kashyap — Roseland
  3. Vanshika Munjani — Shiv Sai Society
  4. Bhavshree Venkatsean — Roseland
  5. Durva Karandikar — Laxmi Angan Society
  6. Nivrithi Harinarayan — Roseland
  7. Rushita Agarwal — Vasant Avenue

In addition to this, another Roselander, Vrunda Joshi, bagged the third prize under the solo category, and under the sub-junior group category a special mention was given to the students of Nartan Academy. One of the judges of the competition was the well-known dancer Gautam Marathe.

Foram expressed her pride in the kids and said, “The kids’ formations were beautiful, even when at times I felt like something was going wrong in their performance, they tried their best and all of them did well. It took a lot of hard work but all of them were so good.”
