Pune’s archery prowess was on full display as India finished second with 19 medals, including 7 gold, 9 silver, and 3 bronze, at the Youth Asian Archery Championships in Taiwan. The tournament, held from September 27 to October 3, saw Maharashtra players excel in both recurve and compound events.
Pune-based archers Ryan Siddiqui and Vaishnavi Pawar led the charge, winning a gold and silver medal, respectively. Sharwari Shende, also from Pune, was among the medalists. In total, seven Pune-based archers contributed to Maharashtra’s impressive haul of 9 medals.
The state’s success was largely attributed to Pune’s robust archery infrastructure and coaching facilities. “Pune’s archery scene is thriving, and we’re proud of our talented archers,” said a Pune Archery Association official. “Our city’s infrastructure and coaching have played a significant role in nurturing these champions.”
Other Maharashtra medalists included Dnyaneshwari Gadade, who won under-21 individual silver and team gold, Aditi Swamy, who secured team gold, Aditya Gadade, who won team gold, Tejal Salve, and Manav Jadhav. Maharashtra’s performance demonstrated the state’s growing archery talent.
Pune’s archery talent has once again made the city proud, and their achievements will inspire future generations of archers. With its thriving archery scene, Pune continues to produce talented archers who excel on the national and international stages.
India’s medal breakdown included 7 gold, 9 silver, and 3 bronze, finishing second behind host Taiwan. A strong Korean team finished third with 7 medals.
