The project was inaugurated by Sunil Kakade, Chief Engineer of Mahavitaran Pune Division, during the ongoing “Seva Parv” initiative conducted from September 17 to October 2.
The inauguration event was attended by senior officials including Superintending Engineer Gyanadev Padalkar, Executive Engineer Chandrakant Dighe, and members of the housing society such as Chairman Brigadier S.T. Spanning 33 acres, the Salunke Vihar housing society comprises 867 electricity connections, including 746 domestic and 121 other connections. Of this, 107 individual households installed 310 kW of rooftop solar capacity under the Suryaghar Scheme, while an additional 45 kW caters to water supply and 10 kW to street lighting, totaling 365 kW. Other residents are expected to shift to solar energy soon.
Chief Engineer Kakade praised the society for its green energy initiative and encouraged the installation of solar projects on remaining rooftops to achieve full electricity self-sufficiency. Residents were also advised on installing three-phase TOD meters, which provide an 80 paise per unit discount on daytime electricity usage.
In a similar development, the Sarita Vaibhav Housing Society in Singhgad Road installed a 109-kW rooftop solar project under the same scheme, making the society fully energy independent. The project was inaugurated by Superintending Engineer Gyanadev Padalkar with society members in attendance.
