Pune: Baner Resident Files Police Complaint After 9 Year Old Attacked By Aggressive Pet Dog In Society Play Area
On June 3, 2025, a disturbing incident unfolded at Rohan Leher II society in Baner, Pune, when a 9 year old girl was attacked by a pet dog in the society’s play area. The incident took place between 5:00 PM and 5:15 PM, while the victim was playing on her scooter along with her friends.
According to a formal complaint lodged with Baner Police Station by her father, the dog named “Rio” — a pet of society residents — was being handled by their underage daughter at the time of the incident. When the victim approached the dog to pet it, Rio allegedly attacked her without any provocation. The child sustained serious injuries on the upper side of her left hip and was immediately rushed to Manipal Hospital, Baner, for emergency treatment.

The complaint further states that Rio has shown aggressive behavior in the past and has reportedly attacked other residents and pets within the society. Despite prior warnings, the pet parents have allegedly failed to take corrective action or secure the dog properly.
Victim’s father expressed concern over the dog being repeatedly allowed in public spaces like the children’s play area without a leash or trained handler. He has submitted supporting evidence, including medical records, doctor’s reports, and CCTV footage from the society premises. Victim’s father stated that they too are pet parents and the daughter is known to handle pets. But this dog attacked her without any provocation. And this particular dog has a history of attacking society residents multiple times and also other pets.
Pune Pulse spoke to a resident who complained that she was walking into the parking area when this dog being carried by their underage daughter attacked her and brought permanent injury to her. She said the pet parents behave aggressively and threaten a dire situation when they complain about their dog.
The family is now urging the police to take immediate action against the pet owners for negligence and ensure such incidents are prevented in the future.
Residents of Rohan Leher II are also reportedly alarmed by the incident and may push for stricter pet management rules within the society to safeguard children and other residents. When Pune Pulse spoke to Bavdhan police station, Anil Vibhute, Senior PI he said that a complaint has been registered under Section 291 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
