Bhopal | June 2, 2025 – Sonia Gupta, founder of the online baking academy AnybodyCanBake, has been crowned India’s first SuperChef at the national finale of SuperChef India 2025, held at Marriott Courtyard, Bhopal. The competition was organised by the Dainik Bhaskar Group.

The culinary contest brought together thousands of home chefs from across India. The final round saw Sonia competing against top talents and emerging victorious under the expert judgment of celebrity chefs Sanjeev Kapoor, Nita Mehta, and senior journalist and food critic Amin Ali.

Sonia, known for her specialisation in eggless and healthy baking, surprised many by stepping beyond her niche to take on diverse cooking challenges. Her win reflects a broader trend of home chefs gaining national recognition and reshaping the food scene in India.

“I’ve spent years perfecting baking, but cooking was a space I wanted to re-explore. This contest helped me reconnect with that passion,” Sonia said after her win.

Her journey began with a recipe submission on March 9 for the city-level round. She advanced to win the Maharashtra state title on May 2 and went on to impress the jury at the national finale on May 21 with her balanced flavours, health-conscious approach, and elegant presentation.

SuperChef India 2025 was created to celebrate the stories, traditions, and talents of home cooks across the country. Judging criteria included innovation, plating, ingredient knowledge, and storytelling.

Supported by sponsors including Zoff Spices, Dhara, Philips, LaOpala, and Chings, the event aimed to spotlight India’s regional culinary heritage and everyday cooking talent.

Apart from her SuperChef win, Sonia is widely respected as a baking mentor. Through AnybodyCanBake, she has trained over 10,000 students since 2017, helping many, especially women, start their own baking businesses. Her platform offers structured, eggless, self-paced baking courses designed for Indian kitchens.

“Cooking connects you with others. Baking connects you with yourself,” Sonia reflected. “This title proves food is not just nourishment — it’s expression.”

With this national title, Sonia Gupta has become a symbol of creativity, courage, and the growing power of home chefs in India’s food revolution.
