The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced plans to construct a new Pune-Bengaluru Expressway, aiming to provide enhanced connectivity between Karnataka and Maharashtra. If all goes as planned, construction on this ambitious project will begin soon.

Key Features of the Pune-Bengaluru Expressway

  1. Route and Connectivity
    The 700-kilometer-long expressway will connect:
    • Karnataka: Nine districts, including Bengaluru Rural, Tumkur, Chitradurga, Davangere, Vijayanagar, Koppal, Gadag, Bagalkot, and Belgaum.
    • Maharashtra: Three districts, namely Sangli, Satara, and Pune.
  2. Lane Structure
The expressway will be an 8-lane highway, with an estimated construction cost exceeding ₹50,000 crore.
  3. Reduced Travel Time
Once operational, the expressway will cut the current travel time between Pune and Bengaluru from 15 hours to just 7 hours. Vehicles will be allowed a maximum speed of 120 kilometers per hour, significantly enhancing travel efficiency.
  4. Development Stage
NHAI officials are currently preparing a detailed project report (DPR). Upon completion of the DPR, land acquisition and other preliminary processes will commence.
The expressway will feature multiple flyovers, overbridges, and interchanges, ensuring seamless connectivity.

Expected Timeline and Economic Impact

The construction of the Pune-Bengaluru Expressway is expected to begin shortly, with completion targeted for 2028. Once operational, the expressway is anticipated to boost economic growth in the region, particularly in real estate development, thanks to improved connectivity and infrastructure.

While detailed information about the project is yet to be disclosed, reports suggest that the expressway, alongside Bengaluru’s second airport, will significantly impact the real estate sector in Karnataka and Maharashtra.
