Pune-Bengaluru Expressway: Completion Date and Key Benefits for 12 Districts
Pune, July 8: The much-anticipated Pune-Bengaluru Expressway is set to revolutionize travel and regional connectivity, slashing travel time between Pune and Bengaluru from 15 hours to just 7 hours. According to a report by 99acres, the ambitious 8-lane corridor is expected to be completed by 2028.
The expressway will span nine districts in Karnataka—including Bengaluru Rural, Tumkur, Chitradurga, Davangere, Vijayanagar, Koppal, Gadag, Bagalkot, and Belgaum—and three districts in Maharashtra, namely Pune, Satara, and Sangli.
Estimated to cost over ₹50,000 crore, the project falls under the Bharatmala Pariyojana and is envisioned as a high-speed alternative to NH-48. Once operational, vehicles will be allowed to travel at speeds of up to 120 km/h, ensuring seamless and faster connectivity across regions.
The infrastructure plan includes six Road Over Bridges (ROBs), 22 interchanges, 55 flyovers, and 14 crossings over national and state highways. By passing through underdeveloped areas in Karnataka and drought-prone zones of Maharashtra, the expressway is expected to boost trade, economic growth, and local employment opportunities.
Urban planners also anticipate the expressway to catalyze residential and commercial development along its route, benefiting Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities such as Bagalkot and Gadag.
With its strategic alignment, the Pune-Bengaluru Expressway aims to emerge as a critical economic corridor while easing the commute for travelers and logistics players alike.
