Pune Bengaluru Highway: Over ₹2.35 Crore Collected In Speeding Fines On Katraj-Navale Bridge Route In Just 3 Months
Katraj, Pune: Motorists traveling from the new Katraj tunnel towards Navale Bridge are advised to drive with caution. In response to the frequent accidents on this stretch, the Pune Traffic Police have deployed a speed gun-equipped vehicle to monitor speeding.
Vehicles exceeding the speed limit of 60 kmph are being penalized using this speed gun system. In the past three months alone—April, May, and June—traffic police have collected fines totaling approximately ₹2.35 crore. These penalties were imposed on three-wheelers, four-wheelers, and heavy vehicles. The fines are ₹1,000 for three-wheelers, ₹2,000 for four-wheelers, and ₹4,000 for heavy vehicles.
Monthly Breakdown of Fines:
- April: 4,016 vehicles fined – ₹82.90 lakh
- May: 4,091 vehicles fined – ₹84.98 lakh
- June: 3,528 vehicles fined – ₹67.84 lakh
Although a charitable organization had installed fixed speed cameras at two locations on the route, they are currently non-functional, and therefore not contributing to enforcement.
“Our aim is not just revenue collection. Due to the steep descent near Navale Bridge, speeding has become a major cause of recurring accidents. Speed enforcement helps ensure safety. We urge motorists to strictly follow the 60 kmph speed limit on this road,” said Himmat Jadhav , Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Pune City told a daily newspaper.
