Pune, April 18, 2025: In a major development aimed at fare transparency, cab drivers—like auto rickshaw drivers—will now charge passengers based on rates set by the RTO (Regional Transport Office). This resolution was passed by a majority during a meeting of the Indian Gig Workers Forum and the IGF Cab Union held at the PWD Ground, Navi Sangvi, Pune.

The meeting saw a large turnout of cab drivers associated with app-based services such as Ola, Uber, and Rapido.

Key Resolutions Passed:

1. From April 18, 2025, all cab drivers operating through the Rapido platform will begin charging passengers as per the official meter rate displayed on the app.

2. From May 1, 2025, passengers using Ola and Uber will also be charged strictly based on meter readings.

3. To offer some relief to commuters, cab fares will be charged at Rs. 21 per km after applying a 16% discount on the existing RTO rate of Rs. 25 per km. This proposal was tabled by Dr. Keshav Nana Kshirsagar, President of the Indian Gig Workers Forum, and was unanimously supported by the union members.

To facilitate this new fare system, the union launched www.onlymeter.in, a dedicated platform to help cab drivers calculate fares based on meter readings and allow passengers to verify auto rickshaw rates.

Cab drivers will display official notices inside their vehicles to raise awareness among commuters. If passengers have doubts about auto fare charges, they can visit the website to verify RTO-approved meter rates, said Dr. Keshav Nana Kshirsagar, President, Indian Gig Workers Forum.
