Pune: Centre Clears ₹332 Crore for Sewage Upgrade in 23 Villages Merged with PMC

Pune, July 23, 2025: The Central government has sanctioned the second instalment of ₹332.30 crore for a major sewage infrastructure project covering 23 villages merged into the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The ₹1,437.94 crore project falls under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme and aims to overhaul the drainage systems in these rapidly developing areas.
With this, the total sanctioned amount has now reached ₹533.85 crore, PMC officials confirmed. “We have planned a comprehensive sewage network for the 23 merged villages, which includes replacing old sewage lines and laying around 472 km of new drainage pipelines,” said Additional Municipal Commissioner Prithviraj BP.
The project also involves setting up eight new Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) with a combined capacity of 201 million litres per day (MLD) to cater to the growing population in the merged areas.
As per PMC data, ₹343.13 crore is allocated for drainage line works and ₹190.72 crore for the STPs. The civic body has completed all formalities for the next stages of the project and expects to receive the newly approved tranche shortly.
The AMRUT 2.0 programme will benefit several areas including Sus, Mahalunge, Narhe, Pisoli, Sasanenagar, Kondwe Dhawade, Kirkatwadi, Nandoshi, Khadakwasla, Navin Kopre, Nanded, Bhilarewadi, Gujar Nimbalkarwadi, Jambulwadi, Kolewadi, and Mangdewadi.
“The project is crucial for improving sanitation and preventing waterlogging in these fast-growing localities. Work will soon resume across multiple sites,” a senior PMC official added.
