Pune: Chandrakant Patil Warns PMC, Shut Down Sus Waste Project Or Face Protest

Pune: Senior political leader Chandrakant Patil has issued an ultimatum to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), demanding the immediate shutdown of the Sus Solid Waste Management Project. During a meeting with Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kadam from PMC’s Solid Waste Management Department, Patil warned that if the project is not discontinued by the end of the day, he will lead a protest tomorrow.
The Sus Waste-to-CNG project, designed to convert wet waste into compressed natural gas (CNG), has faced opposition from residents and political leaders. In January 2024, PMC had decided to gradually relocate the facility to Nande-Chande, but the delay in implementation has drawn criticism.
During the discussion, Patil questioned the PMC’s inaction and was reportedly dissatisfied with Kadam’s response. Expressing frustration over the lack of progress, he also contacted PMC Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale, voicing his discontent over the project’s management.
Patil’s warning has intensified pressure on the PMC, with local voices growing louder against the project. As political tensions rise, the civic body now faces mounting demands to act on its prior commitment to relocate the facility.
