Pune: Citizens Raise Alarm Over Poorly Planned Nagar Road Projects, Demand Clarity from PMC and Traffic Police
Despite raising repeated objections over the past year, residents are still awaiting a response from the City Engineer’s office regarding the controversial entry and exit design approved for the Kamani Plot commercial construction on Nagar Road.
According to the Association of Nagar Road Citizens Forum, the planned layout—with both entry and exit points on Nagar Road—will significantly increase congestion at a crucial junction near Shastri Nagar.
Citizens have consistently suggested a more logical flow, where the entry is located on Nagar Road and the exit on the Loop Road. They argue that the current plan will lead to major traffic jams, and even the proposed Y-shaped flyover and grade separator will not offer relief from the chaos caused by such uncoordinated planning.
The group also called out the Traffic Police, stating that they must share details of all traffic diversions planned or already initiated at key points including Dargah, Somnath Nagar, AGNI, Shastri Nagar, and Parnakutti.
As law enforcers, it is their responsibility to manage the traffic situation during the expected upheaval. Without proactive measures and coordination, the entire movement on Nagar Road is at risk of coming to a standstill once these infrastructure projects begin simultaneously.
“Frustrated by the lack of initiative from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), concerned citizens approached the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), who convened a meeting on April 3, 2025. The discussions revealed multiple discrepancies and previously unknown facts—none of which aligned with each other. This chaotic revelation only confirmed the citizens’ long-standing concern: that the development projects on Nagar Road are moving forward without proper micro-planning or integrated thinking, ” Said – Qaneez Sukhrani, Convenor, Association of Nagar Road Citizens Forum.
