Pune, July 24, 2025: The delimitation of electoral wards for the upcoming Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections is in its final phase. The draft plan for ward formation is expected to be completed within the next two to three days. Following that, the committee members will sign off on the draft between July 25 and 31. The draft will then be submitted to the Urban Development Department on August 4.
The Urban Development Department had issued instructions to carry out fresh ward delimitation for the PMC elections. Accordingly, the work is underway. The elections will be conducted under a four-member ward structure, and based on the 2011 census, Pune will have 165 corporators. Currently, the election office is using Google mapping to prepare the draft ward layout.
Cantonment Inclusion Will Not Affect Ward Boundaries:
Although Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis has given in-principle approval for including Pune and Khadki cantonment areas into PMC limits, no official decision has been made yet. Since the merger has not taken place and the state government has not issued an ordinance for expanding PMC limits, the inclusion of cantonment areas will not impact the current ward delimitation.
The draft map of the wards will be finalized and submitted to the PMC Commissioner by July 24. After an on-ground inspection of ward boundaries, the commissioner will sign the finalized draft and submit it to the Urban Development Department by August 4.
The Urban Development Department will then forward the draft to the State Election Commission between August 6 and 11. The Election Commission will ask the municipal body to publish the draft between August 22 and 28, after which suggestions and objections will be invited through a public hearing process.
