A 27-year-old teacher at a civic high school in Pune was arrested on Friday for allegedly sexually assaulting and harassing a 17-year-old Standard X student. The incident came to light when a school staffer from the school administration found the teacher in a compromising position with the student in an empty classroom around 10.45am. She had allegedly forgotten to bolt the door from inside. The staffer reported the matter to the principal and the latter informed the Khadak police.

According to the police, the teacher was in a physical relationship with the student for several months. The school authorities reported the matter to the police, who arrested the teacher under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The police investigation revealed that the teacher, who was unmarried, had initiated the relationship with the student a few months ago and would regularly meet him at isolated spots on the school premises. The police noted that the boy hailed from a poor family. The teacher also showed the student objectionable video clips on her cellphone.
