Pune Crime: Engineering Topper Turns Thief, Flees To Karnataka With Stolen Jewellery, Arrested After Four-Day Hunt
Pune: A 19-year-old youth, once a topper in engineering studies, has been arrested for stealing imitation jewellery worth ₹4.75 lakh from a jewellery shop in Budhwar Peth, Pune. The accused, a native of Aranhalli village in Kolar, Karnataka, broke into the shop’s washroom window around 1 AM on July 6 and fled to Karnataka after committing the theft.
The shop owner lodged a complaint at Vishrambaug police station the next day. Under the guidance of Inspector Santosh Pandhare and Assistant Inspector Rajesh Usgaonkar, the investigation team scrutinised 230 to 250 CCTV footage clips to trace the accused and arrested him. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime. He was presented in court and remanded to police custody until July 19.
Circumstances Led Him to Crime
The youth had scored excellent marks in Class 12 (science stream) and secured admission to an engineering college in Karnataka under the government quota. However, due to his family’s poor financial condition, he dropped out of college and resorted to theft.
