A 38-year-old resident of Tanajinagar in Chinchwad fell prey to a share trading scam, losing a whopping ₹67.86 lakh to cyber crooks. The victim lodged a complaint with the Chinchwad police on Saturday, detailing the elaborate scam.

According to the police, the victim came into contact with the scammers through a social media platform in August last year. Posing as executives of an investment firm, the crooks promised handsome returns on investments in the stock market. The victim, lured by the promise of easy profits, transferred ₹67.86 lakh to 10 bank account numbers provided by the scammers between August 2 and September 9.

However, when the victim attempted to withdraw his money, the scammers cited various reasons and demanded additional funds. It was only when the victim realized he was being duped that he stopped responding to the scammers and filed a complaint application with the cyber police.
