Pune: A gang involved in duping a senior citizen of ₹1.6 crore under the pretext of high returns from share market investments has been arrested by the Cyber Police. Investigations have revealed that the gang included a director and a technical assistant from a Wagholi-based bank. Six individuals have been arrested so far for using multiple bank accounts to commit the fraud.

The accused have been identified as Govind Sanjay Suryavanshi (22), Rohit Sushil Kamboj (23), Babar alias Omkar Bhavar (22), Jabbar Singh Arjunsingh Purohit (45), Nikhil alias Kishor Jagannath Sawant (32), and Ketan Umesh Bhivare (27). The court has remanded all six to 12 days of police custody.

The scam was initiated by a woman using the alias Ananya Gupta, who contacted the victim via mobile phone. She lured him with promises of lucrative share market returns and collected ₹1.6 crore in several installments, transferred to various bank accounts. One such transfer was traced to a Wagholi-based bank account, leading to the arrest of Bhivare. Further technical investigation linked the other accused.

Govind Suryavanshi is a director of Vighneshwar Multistate Co-op Bank, while Rohit Kamboj works as a technician there. They operated fraudulent digital marketing companies under the names DigiventoryOneness, and Rajat Sale, and were also involved in cryptocurrency schemes. Funds were funneled to Jabbar Purohit, and Nikhil Satav was arrested for misuse of bank accounts.

Police uncovered the use of 100–150 bank accounts for cyber fraud. The gang is linked to 29 cases across India, listed on the National Cyber Crime Portal, with connections in Dubai, Gujarat, and West Bengal.

This operation was conducted under the guidance of DCP Vivek Masal and ACP Machhindra Khade, led by Sr. PI Swapnali Shinde of Shivajinagar Cyber Police Station with a dedicated team.
