Pune, July 18, 2025: In yet another shocking incident highlighting food safety lapses at city eateries, a customer discovered a dead cockroach in a pulav ordered from Bird Valley restaurant in Hinjawadi. The disturbing experience left the diner nauseated and forced him to vomit multiple times after consuming most of the meal.

This is the fourth incident in the last one week. Earlier last week, a glass piece was found in Maska served on Bus in Goodluck Cafe on F C road, cockroach found in a soup in Bhiwandi Darbar, Chicken feather found in Arabic Mandi in  Hinjawadi.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening when the customer placed an order for two pulavs and one dal tadka from Bird Valley, located next to Paranjape Blue Ridge Society, Phase 1, Hinjawadi. While eating, he was horrified to find a dead cockroach lying at the bottom of the pulav box after nearly finishing the meal.

Sharing his ordeal, the customer said, “I felt extremely sick after seeing the cockroach and started vomiting repeatedly. This is not the first time I’ve faced an issue with this restaurant. On an earlier visit for lunch, I found a small stone in the food served to us. It seems the establishment lacks basic hygiene and quality checks.”

When contacted, Suresh Annapure, Joint Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Pune, said, “We have not received any formal complaint regarding this incident so far. Once a complaint is lodged with us, we will take necessary action against the establishment.”

Despite repeated calls from Pune Pulse, the management of Bird Valley restaurant remained unavailable for comment.

This incident has sparked concerns among residents of Hinjewadi and nearby areas, who are now questioning the hygiene practices of popular eateries. Citizens are urging the FDA to carry out stricter inspections and ensure compliance with food safety standards to avoid such health hazards in the future.
