Pune: Dhanori Residents Demand Urgent Relief As Delayed Drainage Work Cripples Daily Life
Over 3,000 residents in Dhanori, Pune, are grappling with daily hardships due to an incomplete drainage line project that has left the main access road in a hazardous and unusable state. The stretch from Dhanori Main Road to Dhanori Gaon, especially near Parijat Sweets and the Vitthal Temple, has become a dangerous zone—posing serious risks to two-wheeler riders and residents alike.
According to locals, the road is the only connecting route for nearly 1,500 families from 7–8 societies in the area. With no alternate road available, they are forced to navigate the dug-up, uneven surface daily. Residents have accused the contractor of carrying out the work in an unprofessional and erratic manner, further compounding their difficulties.
“The work has been stalled for over a month now, and the patch near the temple has been dug up multiple times. Vehicles are getting damaged, and the situation is worsening every day,” shared one resident. Others pointed out that after initial digging, the contractor abruptly halted the work, patching it temporarily and reopening the road, only to dig it up again.

The proposed alternate wider road remains unconstructed, reportedly due to a long-standing land acquisition dispute that has been unresolved for over 13 to 15 years.
Pune Pulse has raised the matter with the road department and is awaiting a response.
Citizens are now urging the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to take swift action. Their primary demand is for the PMC to ensure the proper completion of the drainage line and immediate resurfacing of the road to restore safe access. “We’re not asking for luxury, just basic infrastructure and safety,” said a resident.
The residents hope that their collective voice will finally compel the authorities to act before the situation deteriorates further.
