Pune: Dhayari Residents Stage Protest, Demand Speedy Completion Of Pending DP Road Works
Pune, September 17 2025: Residents of Dhayari staged a unique protest by lying down in front of Pune Municipal Commissioner, demanding the long-delayed DP (Development Plan) road works be completed at the earliest. The Pune Municipal Corporation commissioner, Naval Kishore along with MP Supriya Sule, recently visited the area to review the stalled projects.
Despite the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) paying lakhs of rupees for the work, four crucial DP road projects in the densely populated Dhayari area remain only on paper. Frustrated by years of delay, angry citizens have threatened to launch an intense agitation against PMC’s negligence.
Dhananjay Benkar, Pune city president of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), highlighted the failure of PMC’s estate department before the commissioner. He pointed out that even after President Droupadi Murmu wrote to the state government last year regarding the issue, no action has been taken.
The land records department had received payments from PMC on February 26, 2024, to carry out the road surveys, but officials allegedly stalled the process, citing excuses. Though partial surveys were conducted, maps were not submitted, causing indefinite delays.
The four pending DP roads include:
- Savitri Garden to Lokmat Press
- Kaka Chavan Bungalow to Shri Control Chowk
- Benkar Vasti & Highbliss Society to Laxmi Lodge
- Additional link roads in the area
With no alternative routes, Dhayari faces severe traffic congestion, accidents, and safety risks for students and workers who battle heavy jams daily.
Benkar warned that if the surveys are not completed within 10 days, villagers will launch a “rasta roko” (road blockade) agitation. He also alleged large-scale corruption at the Haveli land records office, where RTI applications filed by villagers on the survey delay have gone unanswered for over 30 days, violating the Right to Information Act.
MP Supriya Sule, along with Dhananjay Benkar, Sunny Raikar, Nilesh Damiste, Kaka Chavan, Prabhavati Bhoomkar, Yashwant Laigude, and Nilesh Girme, were present during the protest.
