Pune: In the Pune district, encompassing Pune city and its surrounding regions, 47,685 voters opted for the “None of the Above” (NOTA) option, rejecting all 303 candidates contesting from 21 Vidhan Sabha constituencies. Interestingly, in Wadgaon Sheri constituency, the number of NOTA votes was almost equivalent to the margin of defeat for NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) candidate Sunil Tingre, who lost by just 4,710 votes.

The district includes eight constituencies in Pune city, three in Pimpri-Chinchwad, and ten in rural areas. Major political alliances like the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and Mahayuti were joined by regional parties, independents, and smaller factions in the electoral battle.

Key Highlights:

  • Chinchwad recorded the highest NOTA votes, with 4,316 voters rejecting all 21 candidates contesting there.
  • Wadgaon Sheri followed closely, where 4,237 voters opted for NOTA, directly impacting the narrow defeat of Sunil Tingre.
  • Kothrud, represented by BJP’s Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, saw 3,152 NOTA votes.
  • In Shivajinagar, where BJP’s incumbent MLA Siddharth Shirole was in the fray, 2,044 voters selected NOTA.
