Pune Division Sees 13% Drop in Road Accidents and Fatalities in 2024
In a major boost to road safety, the Pune division has recorded a 13% drop in road accidents and fatalities in 2024 compared to 2023, according to the Highway State Patrol (HSP).
As per official data, fatal accidents have reduced from 1,191 in 2023 to 1,035 in 2024. Similarly, the total number of accidents has dropped from 2,190 to 2,077. The decline is attributed to stricter traffic law enforcement, awareness campaigns, and improved road infrastructure.
According to Hindustan Times, over-speeding remains a major cause of fatal accidents. To tackle this, speed limits were enforced rigorously using speed cameras and radar guns.
Police patrols were also increased, especially in accident-prone areas and during peak hours.
Authorities also cracked down on violations related to seat belts and helmets, ensuring better compliance with safety rules.
Commuters have also noticed the change.
With continued enforcement, public participation, and technology, Pune’s highways are moving towards becoming safer for all.
