Dr Ganesh Rakh has delivered over 1,000 girls free of cost in a decade-long mission to save daughters, drawing admiration from Anand Mahindra and thousands online.

A heartwarming story of compassion from Pune has moved thousands across India. Dr Ganesh Rakh, a physician who has made it his mission to protect the girl child, does not charge any fees for deliveries when a baby girl is born in his hospital.

The story gained wide attention after D Prasanth Nair shared on X the account of a daily wage labourer whose wife underwent a caesarean at Dr Rakh’s hospital. Expecting a hefty bill, the man broke down when the doctor told him: “When angels are born, I don’t charge any fee.” Overcome with emotion, the father reportedly fell at Dr Rakh’s feet, calling him “God.”

Inspired by his mother’s words — “Become a doctor and protect these angel girls”, he calls the endeavour a mission to save daughters and challenge social stigma around female births.
