Pune: Driver Arrested For Extorting Employer By Blackmailing Through WhatsApp
Pune: A driver was arrested for attempting to extort ₹10 lakh from his employer by blackmailing him with a WhatsApp message. The accused, identified as Amit Dattatray Thopte, allegedly threatened to defame his employer’s father and harm the family if the money was not paid.
The victim, Gaurav Pramod Dugad, a 35-year-old construction businessman from Vasant Bagh Society, Bibwewadi, lodged a complaint at the Bibwewadi police station on March 28, 2025. Based on his complaint, police verified the claims and set up a trap to catch the accused.

Thopte had instructed Dugad to deliver the money at Pushpa Mangal Hall. When he arrived to collect the extortion amount, the police arrested him red-handed with ₹2,09,500, which included ₹2 lakh in dummy currency and ₹9,500 in genuine notes.
The accused, a resident of Gurudatt Apartment, Balaji Nagar, Pune, has been booked under relevant sections at Bibwewadi Police Station. He was presented before the court, which granted police custody until March 31, 2025.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to gather further evidence in the case.
