Pune, July 10, 2025: A shocking case has emerged from Pune’s Hinjawadi area, where a young engineer allegedly exploited his girlfriend, promising marriage, and later forced her to undergo an abortion by secretly mixing abortion pills into a dessert (rabdi). The disturbing incident has sparked outrage and raised serious concerns over women’s safety in the city.

The accused, identified as Adarsh Valmik Meshram, works with an IT company in Hinjawadi. According to police, he was in a relationship with the 28-year-old victim since their college days in 2018. The victim stated that Meshram established physical relations with her under the pretext of marriage but later began avoiding her whenever she brought up the topic.

In June 2025, the victim travelled from Yavatmal to Pune to meet Meshram on his birthday. During her stay, she discovered evidence on his phone of intimate relationships with other women. When she confronted him, he refused to marry her despite knowing she was pregnant.

The complaint alleges that on July 3, Meshram mixed abortion pills into rabdi and forced her to consume it, leading to a miscarriage. When the victim resisted his advances earlier in 2024, he allegedly assaulted her in a hotel room.

Hinjawadi Police have registered an FIR against Meshram under IPC Sections 376 (rape), 313 (causing miscarriage without consent), and other relevant provisions. He is currently under investigation.

The case has brought to light yet another instance of betrayal and violence against women in Pune, prompting demands for stricter action to ensure women’s safety.
