Pune: Ex Corporator Sunny Nimhan Seeks Urgent Police Action On Surge In Thefts Across Aundh, Balewadi and Khadki
Pune, July 16, 2025: Former Corporator Sunny Vinayak Nimhan has submitted a memorandum to Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar demanding urgent action against the rising incidents of thefts in Aundh, Balewadi, and Khadki—areas that are both residential and commercially significant in Pune’s western region.
In recent days, there has been a concerning spike in thefts occurring even in broad daylight. Incidents include open snatching of jewelry from citizens on the streets, as well as daring burglaries at homes and commercial establishments. These events have heightened feelings of insecurity among residents.
In his memorandum, Sunny Nimhan pointed out that the frequent cases of theft and looting have created an atmosphere of fear and unease in these neighborhoods, eroding public trust in the police machinery. He noted that this situation is extremely critical from the perspective of public safety and law and order.

Demands for Urgent Measures
1. Increased Police Patrolling:
Intensify police patrolling and security arrangements at sensitive locations, giving priority to regular daytime patrols in theft-prone areas.
2. CCTV System Overhaul:
Inspect the current state of CCTV systems in public areas and repair or replace faulty and non-functional equipment to ensure effective surveillance.
3. Strengthening Community Policing: Reactivate and strengthen initiatives like ‘Mohalla Committees’ and ‘Beat Policing’ to enhance coordination with local residents. Develop an action plan to prevent crime through active citizen participation at the local level.
4. Swift and Stringent Legal Action:
Conduct thorough investigations into theft cases and take strict, prompt legal action against the perpetrators. It is crucial that such incidents are solved at the earliest.
5. Regular Community Meetings:
Organize regular community interaction meetings to build public confidence. Direct engagement by police officers with residents will help reduce fear and improve community participation in maintaining law and order.
Nimhan expressed confidence that prompt implementation of these measures would help restore law and order in the area and rebuild citizens’ trust in the police administration. He urged the Police Commissioner to take appropriate action at the earliest.
