In response to rising safety concerns, the Pune Forest Department is introducing new surveillance technology to improve monitoring in key forested areas, including Bopdev Ghat, Baner, and Hanuman Hills. Following recent incidents of robberies and a physical assault, the department plans to install cameras and deploy drones as part of a pilot project at Taljai Hills.

This initiative will bolster the limited manpower, as only one range officer and 20-25 staff members are responsible for each forest range.

The advanced surveillance system aims to monitor the vast forest areas more effectively, particularly at night, enhancing safety for visitors and assisting law enforcement in curbing illegal activities. The project is seen as a crucial step toward addressing public safety concerns and ensuring a secure environment in Pune’s forests.
