Pimpri Chinchwad, August 16, 2025: The cyber police in Pimpri Chinchwad have registered a case of cheating against four employees of a Hinjewadi-based IT company for allegedly stealing confidential data and causing losses amounting to ₹82 crore. The fraud is said to have taken place between April 2024 and August 2025.
According to police officials, a complaint was filed by a representative of the affected IT firm on Wednesday. According to police, the accused employees, including one woman, allegedly stole the company’s source codes and software solutions before floating their own firm.
“By using the stolen codes and solutions, the accused went on to develop more than 100 websites and generated revenue illegally,” police said.
The complainant stated that the fraudulent activities directly impacted the company’s business, leading to massive financial losses. Following the complaint, a case has been registered under sections 316 (criminal breach of trust) and 318 (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act.
Cyber police officials confirmed that investigations are underway to trace the exact scale of the operations and identify other possible collaborators. The accused are yet to be taken into custody.
The case highlights the growing challenges faced by IT firms in safeguarding sensitive intellectual property and proprietary data, particularly at a time when cyber fraud and insider threats are on the rise.
