Pune: Gagan Ela, Bramha Majestic Residents Demand Action Against Liquor Shops Creating Nuisance On NIBM–Undri Road
Pune, September 15, 2025: Residents of Gagan Ela, Bramha Majestic, Natraj CHS, Runwal Daffodils, and other societies along NIBM–Undri Road have jointly raised serious concerns over the growing nuisance caused by wine and beer shops in the locality. The issue was formally highlighted under the banner of the NIBM–Undri Road Residents Forum through a memorandum submitted by social activist Parveen Tambe to Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar during the Maha Janata Darbar held in Hadapsar.
Following the representation, State Excise officials visited the premises of Gagan Ela, Bramha Majestic, and Natraj CHS to take stock of the situation. Residents informed the officials that public drinking in open spaces, urination, and lewd remarks directed at both men and women have become routine occurrences, making the environment unsafe, particularly for families and children. Despite repeated complaints to the police, the residents alleged that their concerns had gone unaddressed.

Adding to the fear, locals recounted multiple instances of violence involving drunk individuals brandishing weapons such as knives, sickles, and even firearms. They also pointed out that many people purchased liquor and consumed it inside parked cars, turning residential lanes into unsafe zones. They also urinate in the area leading health concerns. “This has created a threatening environment for us. We feel unsafe even stepping out in our own neighborhood,” said a resident of Gagan Ela.
The menace has extended beyond just alcohol. Residents claimed that the area has also seen the rise of drug peddling, drawing youngsters into substance abuse and spoiling the social fabric. Concerned citizens stressed that urgent police patrolling and strict monitoring are necessary to curb the problem.
During their visit, State Excise officials assured residents that license holders of the shops in question would be served notices for violations. They also promised to coordinate with the police and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for appropriate enforcement action.
Residents, however, emphasized that words must translate into visible results. They demanded consistent patrolling, stricter monitoring of liquor outlets, and strong action against illegal activities to restore safety and peace in the locality.
