Pune Ganesh Visarjan: Dhol-Tasha Performers Turn Postmen, Spread Unique Message
Pune, September 6, 2025 — This year’s Ganesh visarjan procession in Pune brought with it a creative twist as dhol-tasha performers dressed up as postmen, reviving memories of an era when letters carried emotions across distances.
The Swarajya Trust Dhol-Tasha Pathak adopted the theme of the now fading tradition of letters and postmen. Wearing vintage postman uniforms, the performers not only played dhols but also distributed letters to people, urging them to pen messages to Lord Ganesha. These handwritten letters were then symbolically “posted” at the venue.
The act caught the attention of onlookers during the Kesariwada Ganpati visarjan (the fifth manacha Ganpati), where the group performed.
In today’s age of emails and mobile communication, the performers sought to remind Punekars of the personal touch of handwritten letters — an emotional connection that once defined communication. Their innovative presentation stood out amid the vibrant and traditional visarjan festivities.
