Pune: Garbage Dump Behind Dhanori’s Shubhankar Durvaa Society Sparks Health Fears Among Residents
Pune, July 8, 2025 – Residents of Shubhankar Durvaa Society in Gokul Nagar, Dhanori, are raising an alarm over an unhygienic garbage dumping area behind their premises, which has turned into a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other disease-causing pests.
Despite Pune’s reputation as an IT hub with numerous posh societies, residents say the ground reality paints a different picture. “This garbage dump has been lying unattended for weeks. No municipal authorities have turned up to clear the waste,” said a concerned resident.
The situation worsens during the monsoon, with stagnant water and piles of rotting garbage leading to a surge in mosquitoes and increasing the risk of vector-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria. Families, especially those with children and elderly members, fear severe health hazards if the issue is not addressed immediately.
Residents are now calling on the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and higher authorities to intervene and ensure prompt cleaning and sanitation of the area. They hope that bringing attention to the issue will lead to urgent action.
“This is not just about cleanliness, it’s about public health and safety. We request authorities to fix this before it spirals into a bigger problem,” residents added.
