Pune Gears Up for Book Fest 2025 at Fergusson College: A Celebration of Stories, Readers, and Community
This December, Pune is set to turn into a paradise for book lovers as the Pune Book Festival 2025 arrives with fresh energy and a renewed focus on the ‘Joy of Reading’. Scheduled to take place from December 13 to 21 at the iconic Fergusson College, the festival promises a rich blend of literature, culture, and creativity, all curated under the guidance of the National Book Trust (NBT).
The event is not just another book fair—it’s part of a broader national mission to ignite a passion for reading among young minds across India. With Pune emerging as a major hub for literary enthusiasm—now second only to Delhi—the festival’s growing influence is inspiring similar events in Nashik and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, following recent successes in Mumbai, Nagpur, and Pune itself.
Speaking at a press briefing, Yuvraj Malik, Director of NBT, revealed new additions to this year’s festival that aim to deepen its impact. For the first time, awards will be presented for exceptional media coverage and powerful photography that highlights and supports the importance of reading in today’s digital age.
In a bid to reach beyond city limits, the festival will also introduce a mobile ‘book bus’ that will travel through rural areas around Pune, bringing books directly to the people. In addition, visitors will have free digital access to 3,000 titles, further removing barriers to literature.
To preserve the integrity of the event and protect intellectual property, the organisers have announced strict action against piracy and book theft. A dedicated monitoring committee will be in place to supervise vendors and ensure compliance with copyright norms.
In a nod to the city’s multilingual spirit, the festival will feature dedicated exhibition spaces for Marathi, Hindi, and English books, creating a more inclusive and diverse experience for readers of all backgrounds.
As the countdown begins, Pune is all set to welcome book enthusiasts, writers, publishers, and artists under one roof, reaffirming that books are not just pages bound together—they are vessels of imagination, knowledge, and connection. With new initiatives and a widened reach, the 2025 edition of the Pune Book Festival promises to be more than just an event—it’s a movement.
