Pune: Hundreds of gig workers protested outside the Bavdhan office of Urban Company on March 3, 2025, alleging large-scale fraud. According to workers, the company lured them with promises of substantial business opportunities but later failed to deliver, leading to financial losses worth lakhs of rupees.

The protest is being organized under the leadership of the **Indian Gig Workers’ Platform**, which has accused Urban Company of exploiting gig workers through misleading commitments. Many workers claim they invested their money based on the company’s assurances, expecting consistent work, but were left struggling without adequate earnings.

The affected workers are demanding justice and fair compensation for their financial losses. The protest aims to draw attention to the increasing challenges faced by gig workers, who often work without employment benefits or security.

With the gig economy expanding rapidly, such disputes highlight the urgent need for better regulations to protect workers from unfair practices. The protest at Bavdhan is expected to gather significant attention as workers push for accountability from Urban Company and fair treatment in the gig economy sector.

  • Withdraw the co-pilot device policy.
  • End exploitation under the pretext of cancellation charges.
  • Increase workers’ charges and reduce company commission.
  • Stop blocking IDs without valid reasons.
  • Provide service and petrol charges for all repair-related work.

Indian Gig Workers’ Forum, President, Dr. Keshav Nana Kshirsagar said that the workers must get their respect and also the demands should be met.
