Pune: Godman Booked For Molesting Devotee Under Pretext Of RitualsÂ
Pune, August 25, 2025: Pune rural police have booked a godman for allegedly molesting and harassing a woman devotee at an ashram in Khed tehsil.
The accused has been identified as Navnath Gavali, who runs the Shivdutt Ashram Math. According to police, the incident took place on July 17, 2025, but a formal complaint was lodged on August 19, 2025.
Investigators stated that the victim and her husband were regular visitors to the ashram. On the day of the incident, the accused allegedly asked the woman to perform certain rituals and pooja. He then sent her husband out to fetch milk for the ritual, during which he allegedly molested her.
Later that evening, the accused reportedly repeated the act and allegedly began harassing her through phone calls. Police suspect that other women may have been subjected to similar exploitation under the guise of spiritual practices.
Further investigation is underway.
