Pune: Hadapsar Residents Voice Concern Over Waste Mismanagement, Seek Action After HC Ruling
Pune, October 12, 2025: Residents of Hadapsar have proposed decentralised and sustainable waste management solutions following the Bombay High Court’s recent decision to reject a petition seeking the relocation of the garbage processing facility from the Hadapsar industrial area.
In its September 2025 order, the High Court directed the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) to ensure the scientific processing of solid waste as per the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules. The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) was also instructed to take action against any violations by civic authorities or their contractors.
Despite the court’s verdict, residents continue to raise concerns over the unhygienic conditions and lack of coordination between PMC and PCB. “After multiple complaints, an official from Chinchwad finally visited the site and was shocked to see the garbage piled up and the poor condition of the area,” said resident Poonam Punjabi. “Both civic bodies continue to blame each other, citing lack of funds and labour as reasons for inaction.”
Residents have urged the authorities to move garbage trucks parked outside the depot into the premises, spray anti-odour disinfectants, and install CCTV cameras for better monitoring. They also highlighted the deteriorating road conditions caused by the movement of heavy garbage trucks, which pose safety risks to pedestrians and workers.
Residents hope that the authorities will act promptly to improve coordination and adopt effective waste management practices in Hadapsar and nearby areas.
