Pune: Haffkine Institute Set for Major Boost As Minister Zirwal Promises Support, ₹150 Crore Plan In Pipeline
Pune, September 12: Haffkine Institute, a globally reputed state-run organisation known for producing high-quality vaccines in demand worldwide, will soon receive strengthened support.
A proposal of ₹150 crore has been submitted to the government for its development. Food and Drug Administration Minister Narhari Zirwal assured that the institute’s issues will be addressed in consultation with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar to find a positive way forward.
Zirwal reviewed operations at the Haffkine Biopharmaceutical Corporation project in Pimpri-Chinchwad, where he held a meeting with senior officials including Managing Director Sunil Mahindrakar, General Manager Dr. Pradeep Dhivar, Manager Navnath Garje, Pimpri-Chinchwad Unit Manager Dr. Babasaheb Kuhe, FDA Joint Commissioner Girish Hukre, Assistant Commissioner Kondiba Gadewar, and former PCMC Mayor Yogesh Behl.
During his visit, Minister Zirwal inspected facilities related to antivenom production, quality assurance, veterinary medicines, staff housing, cattle sheds, and the serpentarium. He reviewed details on research, production capacity, medicine demand, supply, storage, and testing processes.
Officials also provided updates on the Mumbai and Pimpri-Chinchwad centers, including manpower, resources, staff housing, and financial status. A detailed presentation highlighted production, storage, and revenue generated from antidotes for snakebite, scorpion sting, tetanus, rabies, gas gangrene, and vaccines such as polio.
