Pune: Heavy Rain Prompts Two-Day School Holiday In Lonavala
Lonavala, August 19, 2025 – The Lonavala Municipal Council has declared a two-day local holiday for all schools in its jurisdiction on Wednesday and Thursday, August 20 and 21, 2025, due to heavy rainfall and a red alert warning in the region.
The decision covers all primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools under every management and medium of instruction within the municipal council limits. Officials said the step was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure student safety, considering the continuous heavy rains in Lonavala and surrounding areas.
The order follows directives received from the Education Department, Pune, in view of the Maharashtra government’s red alert for parts of Raigad, Thane, Pune, Satara, and Kolhapur districts.
Municipal Chief Officer Ashok Sable instructed school heads and staff to ensure that all records remain safe during the closure. He also directed that the teaching hours lost due to the holidays should be compensated on other working days.
Citizens and the local press have also been informed of the holiday order.
