Pune: Hinjawadi IT Firm Owner Arrested For ₹28 Lakh Job Scam, Cheating Over 300 Aspirants
Pune, August 25, 2025: Hinjawadi police have arrested an IT firm owner for allegedly duping multiple job aspirants with false promises of lucrative software positions.
The accused, identified as Upesh Ranjit Patil, allegedly set up a fake company at Hinjawadi IT Park Phase 2 and lured young job seekers by offering high-paying roles. From December 15, 2024, till date, he reportedly collected between ₹1 lakh and ₹2 lakh from each candidate as “placement fees” and even issued appointment letters. However, no jobs were provided.
According to police, the accused set up a company and by assuring high-salaried jobs, charged ₹1-2 lakh from each candidate. After taking the money, he handed out appointment letters but failed to provide employment, duping several aspirants.
So far, 11 victims have approached the police, with the total fraud amounting to ₹28 lakh. However, investigators suspect that more than 300 job seekers may have been cheated.
Patil was arrested on Saturday, while a search is underway for his female associate, a director of the company. A case has been registered at the Hinjewadi Police Station under Sections 316(2), 318(4), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
