Pune: Indrayani River Rejuvenation Project Gets Green Signal From State Technical Committee
Pimpri-Chinchwad
Pune, September 19, 2025: In a major decision for Pimpri-Chinchwad, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has cleared the way for the Indrayani River Rejuvenation Project. The state-level technical committee (SLTC) of the Urban Development Department has approved the proposal, paving the path for the project’s implementation.
The Indrayani River, which holds immense spiritual significance in Maharashtra’s Warkari tradition and is vital for nearly 5 million residents of Pimpri-Chinchwad and surrounding rural areas, will now see accelerated development. BJP MLA Mahesh Landge had been consistently pursuing this project, drawing the state government’s attention during assembly sessions and submitting demands to CM Devendra Fadnavis and then CM Eknath Shinde in 2022.
Branded as “Namami Indrayani,” the project has now received all necessary administrative and technical clearances, along with assured funding. Environmental groups and NGOs contributed inputs while finalizing the master plan, which includes a 60 MLD sewage treatment facility at multiple locations, water ATMs, public toilets, street furniture, chain-link fencing, a biodiversity park, and other initiatives.
Under the central government-backed AMRUT 2.0 scheme, the detailed project plan was reviewed by the state-level committee headed by the Additional Chief Secretary, Navi-2, and received final approval.
CM Devendra Fadnavis’ reaction:
“The Indrayani River project will address river conservation, flood control, water treatment, and beautification. With an overall cost of ₹526 crore, the project will be executed under AMRUT 2.0. It will include 40 MLD and 20 MLD treatment plants, stormwater drainage systems to store rainwater, interceptors to divert polluted water to treatment plants, stone embankments for flood control, and green zones along the riverbank.”

MLA Mahesh Landge’s reaction:
“The Warkari community’s sacred Indrayani River and Pimpri-Chinchwad’s lifeline has finally received approval from the state technical committee under the leadership of CM Devendra Fadnavis. Earlier, Deputy CM Eknath Shinde extended support for administrative approval. The BJP-led government has fulfilled its promise to Pimpri-Chinchwad residents. I express my heartfelt gratitude to CM Fadnavis and the government.”
