Pune Jewellery Store Heist: 70 Kg Silver and ₹5 Lakh Cash Looted
Pune, Guruwar Peth: A major burglary was reported at Manik Jewellers in Guruwar Peth, where five masked men broke into the shop and stole 70 kilograms of silver ornaments along with ₹5 lakh in cash. The total value of the stolen goods is estimated at ₹67.6 lakh. The incident occurred late Sunday night and was discovered on Monday morning, officials from Khadak police station confirmed.
The shop, owned by 41-year-old Vinod Devichand Parmar of Mukundnagar, was securely locked on Sunday night. On Monday morning, local residents noticed the shutters and locks broken and immediately informed Parmar, who then filed a police complaint.
CCTV footage from nearby establishments showed the group arriving on foot, using iron rods to break open the doors, and leaving with bags filled with the stolen items. All five suspects had covered their faces. In an attempt to erase evidence, the burglars also took away the store’s DVR, valued at ₹10,000.
According to Senior Inspector Shashikant Chavan, the gang first tried to break into a neighbouring shop but failed due to strong security measures, after which they targeted Manik Jewellers. “A special team has been formed, and efforts are on to trace the accused. They will be caught soon,” Chavan said.
The Khadak police are investigating the case and scanning nearby CCTV footage for further leads.
