Pune: Kalepadal Police Increase Patrolling In NIBM Annexe After Activist's Plea Against Drug Abuse; Citizens Welcome Action
Pune, August 19, 2025: In response to a formal complaint by prominent social activist Jaymala Dhankikar regarding the rise in drug abuse and illegal narcotics-related activities in Kalepadal and nearby areas, the local police have launched an intensified crackdown on such operations.
PSI Anil Nimbalkar, in a written reply to the activist, confirmed that the Kalepadal police have increased patrolling and initiated targeted action against illegal drug activities, acting directly on the concerns highlighted in Dhankikar’s letter.
The activist welcomed the swift response, stating, “The police under the current leadership of the station in-charge and the guidance of senior officers are doing a commendable job in ensuring the safety of citizens. Our complaints have been promptly addressed, and FIRs have been lodged without delay. We are thankful to the police for their proactive approach in helping the community.”
The increased police presence and action have drawn praise from several residents in the area.
Manish Koli, a resident of Kalepadal, said, “For months, we were worried about suspicious gatherings near open plots and isolated lanes. It’s reassuring to finally see visible police presence. This was much needed.”
Sneha Barate, a college student, added, “There have been whispers of drug dealings in the area, especially near closed commercial spaces. I feel safer now walking home in the evenings.”
Ramesh Satpute, a local shopkeeper, stated, “The crackdown has already made a difference. We appreciate that the police have acted on citizen inputs instead of ignoring them. This kind of collaboration gives us hope.”
Aarti Jadhav, a senior citizen living in the area, echoed similar sentiments: “There were times we hesitated to step out after dark. The recent patrolling is a welcome change and must be sustained.”
Kalepadal police officials have assured continued vigilance and urged citizens to report any suspicious activity. With community participation and sustained efforts, authorities aim to keep the locality safe from drug-related threats.
