Pune: Kharadi Residents Raise Alarm Over Noise, Traffic, And Safety Concerns Â
Pune, March 19, 2025: The Kharadi Housing Societies Welfare Association (KHSWA) has submitted a formal complaint to the Senior Police Inspector of Kharadi Police Station, urging immediate action on critical issues affecting residents, including noise pollution, illegal hawkers, traffic congestion, and security concerns. Â
KHSWA, a registered body under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, represents over 35 housing societies, 8,000 flats, and nearly 20,000 residents in Kharadi. The association has highlighted the following major issues:
1. Noise Pollution
- – Modified bike silencers: Bikers with altered silencers create excessive noise, particularly at Gear South Ground, D.P. Farms Road, Grant Road, Riverfront Road, and Blueberry Society Chowk. The disturbances peak during evening and night hours, posing a serious concern for residents.
- – Loud music at events: High-decibel music is frequently played at Mayfield Estate and Mio Palazzo Chowk, disrupting peace in nearby residential societies.
- – Wedding functions: Bands performing at Mayfield Estate weddings cause significant noise pollution. Residents have urged authorities to verify if the venue has the required event and wedding licenses for operations in a residential area.
2. Encroachment by Hawkers
- – Unauthorized hawkers have occupied footpaths and paver block tracks, forcing pedestrians to walk on the road and risk accidents. Key affected areas include D.P. Farms Road, Grant Road, and Shree Hospital.
- – The presence of illegal vendors near Mio Palazzo Chowk, Ganga Constella, and Gera Parkview is causing severe traffic congestion and raising safety concerns.
3. Rising Security ConcernsÂ
- – Chain-snatching incidents: The association has reported an increase in chain-snatching cases, with two recent incidents near Kumar Primrose Society and Gulmohar Queenstown Society (D.P. Farms Road).
- – Lack of surveillance: KHSWA has requested increased night patrolling in key areas such as Riverdale Heights, Nyati Empire, Shree Hospital, Panchshil, Grant Road, D.P. Farms, and Fountain Road to maintain law and order.
Despite a previous complaint to Chandan Nagar Police Station dated March 12, 2023, these issues continue to persist, necessitating urgent intervention.
KHSWA has assured full cooperation from society office bearers and has also forwarded the letter to local MLA Bapusaheb Pathare’s office for additional support. The association now awaits prompt action from the authorities to restore peace and safety in Kharadi.
