Pune Leads Clean Commute Revolution: Infosys & Routematic Launch City’s First Fully Green Corporate Fleet
In a major push for sustainable urban mobility, Infosys, in partnership with corporate mobility startup Routematic, has launched Pune’s first 100% petrol- and diesel-free transport fleet. This marks a significant shift in how corporate India approaches employee transportation amid growing concerns about air pollution and traffic congestion.
The new fleet, consisting entirely of compressed natural gas (CNG) and electric vehicles (EVs), is a first-of-its-kind initiative in Pune, designed exclusively for employee commutes. With this rollout, Routematic becomes the only corporate transport provider in the city offering a fully green fleet.
Addressing a Growing Crisis
Pune frequently ranks among the world’s most traffic-congested cities. Adding to the challenge, India continues to dominate global air pollution charts—with 13 of the top 20 most polluted cities worldwide, according to the 2024 IQAir World Air Quality Report. Pune itself was recently named one of the five most congested cities in the world by the TomTom Traffic Index.
This green initiative, therefore, arrives not just as innovation, but as necessity. By eliminating petrol and diesel from its operations, Infosys and Routematic aim to curb vehicular emissions, ease congestion via intelligent ride-sharing, and help reduce the city’s carbon footprint.
What the Fleet Offers
The fleet comprises four- and six-seater CNG and EV vehicles, offering daily commutes that are both environmentally friendly and comfortable. This aligns with Infosys’ broader Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) commitments—delivering on green goals through concrete action rather than future intent.
Routematic’s proprietary AI-based platform plays a key role, ensuring efficient route optimization, reduced idle time, and maximized ride-sharing—bringing together sustainability and operational efficiency.
“We’re proud to lead from the front and set a new benchmark for green mobility in Pune,” said Sriram Kannan, Founder & CEO, Routematic. “Becoming the first service provider in the city to enable 100% diesel- and petrol-free operations is a testament to our commitment to a sustainable corporate mobility ecosystem.”
Looking Ahead: Routematic’s Growth Plans
The green fleet is just the beginning. Routematic is now focused on broader sustainability milestones, including:
- Expanding to 10,000 vehicles by March 2026
- Transitioning 30% of its fleet to EVs within two years
- Launching 24/7 EV monitoring command centers across cities
With a presence in over 23 cities, servicing 300+ enterprises and more than 3.5 lakh employees, Routematic is setting the stage for a nationwide shift in how Indian cities can reimagine clean, efficient, and scalable mobility.
