Pune: Lonavla's Popular Sunset Points to be Closed on New Year's Eve For Revellers Over Safety Reasons
The forest department has announced that Lonavla’s famous Tiger and Lion’s points will be closed to tourists on New Year’s Eve to prevent any potential incidents. The gates of both picnic spots will be closed on Tuesday evening, and visitors will only be allowed to return after Wednesday afternoon.
Regional forest officer Prakash Shinde told media person that, the decision was made to avoid overcrowding at the popular sunset points. “A large number of visitors are expected to visit the two points to enjoy the year’s last sunset, which may lead to crowding. To ensure safety, we have decided to prohibit visitors’ entry to the two spots,” Shinde explained.
In addition to the closure of Tiger and Lion’s points, the forest department has also prohibited visitors’ entry to all hills in and around Pune city. Citizens will not be allowed to access the hills after 4 pm on Tuesday until the following morning. Forest guards will be deployed at the hills to enforce the directives, and anyone violating the rules will face action.
Inspector Kishor Dhumal of Lonavla Rural police stated to the media person that adequate police personnel will be present at all picnic points in Lonavla, and traffic on several roads has been diverted. However, the police have not received any directives from the district collector’s office to prohibit tourists’ entry to the picnic points.
