Pune: Maharashtra Govt Extends Deadline For Cooperative Societies’ Annual General Meetings Due To Heavy Rainfall
Pune, September 30, 2025: The Maharashtra State Registrar and Commissioner of Cooperative Societies has announced an extension for holding annual general meetings (AGMs) of cooperative societies in the state due to recent extreme rainfall and flood conditions.
Under Section 75(1) of the Maharashtra Cooperative Societies Act, 1960, all cooperative societies are required to hold their AGMs within six months after the end of the financial year. Originally, societies were expected to complete their meetings by September 30, 2025.
Under the provisions under 75(1) of the Maharashtra Cooperative Societies Act, 1960, and in exercise of the powers vested in me, the period prescribed for holding the annual general meetings of all cooperative societies in the State for the year 2024-25 under Section 75 of the Maharashtra Cooperative Societies Act, 1960, is hereby extended in the State up to 31st October 2025, stated order issued by Deepak Taware, IAS, Commissioner & Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Maharashtra State, Pune.
However, the state experienced severe rainfall in September 2025, disrupting normal life, causing widespread damage across several districts, and leaving many villages submerged. This has made it difficult for cooperative societies to organize their AGMs within the statutory timeframe.
Considering these exceptional circumstances, the Registrar has approved a one-month extension beyond the usual six-month period for holding AGMs. The extension ensures that cooperative societies can comply with the law without being penalized while allowing time for normal life and operations to resume.
