Pune: Maharashtra State Health Dept Issues Notice To Sahyadri Hospital After Couple Dies Post Liver Transplant
Pune, August 25, 2025:The Maharashtra health department has initiated an inquiry into the death of a couple following a liver transplant at Sahyadri Hospital, Pune.
On Sunday, a formal notice was issued to the hospital, directing it to submit complete details of the procedure.
The case pertains to Bapu Komkar (49), who underwent a liver transplant at Sahyadri’s Deccan branch on August 15, with his wife Kamini Komkar (46) acting as the live donor. Bapu passed away on August 17, while Kamini succumbed on August 21, leaving their family in shock.
The notice, issued by Deputy Director Dr Nagnath Yempalle, has instructed the hospital to provide all records, including procedural details, donor and recipient information, video recordings, and treatment reports by Monday, 10 a.m.
Dr Yempalle said, “We have asked the hospital to submit the line of treatment, video evidence, and complete details regarding the transplant procedure to understand the circumstances leading to these deaths.”
